Rajdhani took 16 hours 20 minutes. Only 2 stops - Dhanbad and Kanpur. Mughalsari was a technical halt.
Today, Rajdhani takes 17 hours and 15 minutes.
Trains have slowed down in the last 50 years.

Vikramshila was a super fast train started in 1977 and ran two days a week between Bhagalpur and Delhi.
There was no Magadh Express in 1977. It started in 1984 as a daily train between Patna and New Delhi.

It was an express train, not fast passenger. Took 5.5 hours. Only 6 stops - Sultanganj, Bariarpur, Jamalpur, Kiul, Mokama and Bakhtiarpur.

Magadh Express was introduced in 1984. Before that, there was 191/192 Sonbhadra Express (2 days from Patna, 1 day from Bhagalpur), and 167/168 Vikramshila Express (2 days from Bhagalpur).
In 1984, these 2 trains were merged to give a daily train from Bihar to Delhi. See the timetable from 1983.

Not much older. Tinsukia Mail started in 1974, after the Farakka Barrage was built. Before that, there was no bridge over Ganga connecting South Bengal to North Bengal and North East. To go to Darjeeling from Calcutta, one had to take a train to Sahibganj, then Steamer to Manihari Ghat and then train to Siliguri.
Oldest express train through Bhagalpur was Upper India Express. Could be over 100 years old, but now discontinued.

The Tinsukia Mail history you posted is not correct. Tinsukia Mail was introduced after Farakka Barrage was opened. The only Express train that took the railway steamer from Farakka to Khejuriaghat across the river was Darjeeling Mail.
Khejuriaghat and Malda Town stations were on North East Frontier Railway. Malda Town was a small station on this route. See this time table from 1966. There is no Tinsukia Mail. I also checked the time table till 1971 and no Tinsukia Mail.

Your post is about Assam Mail and Tinsukia Mail that used to run between Calcutta and Tinsukia before independence. The route was through the present day Bangladesh. Crossing Hardinge Bridge over River Padma. It was discontinued after 1947 as the bridge went into Bangladesh, and we did not have a bridge over Ganga to connect South and North Bengal.
The Assam mail between Delhi and Guwahati was introduced in the 60s after Mokama bridge was constructed. (Delhi Patna Mokama Barauni route)

In 1965 Sealdah-KNA part was permanently cancelled & route of Assam Mail changed to BJU-KIR-BOE-SGUJ-APDJ-BNGN-RNY-GHY-LMG-MXN-NTSK.

I was going through 1944 time table and found 3 up 4 dn Sealdah Tinsukia Assam Mail. Its route was through present day Bangladesh. I did not see any other train to Tinsukia. So, there was no Tunsukia Mail then. Assam Mail could be called by some people Tinsukia Mail.
There was no train from Delhi called Assam Mail until 1959.
The North India route was the meter gauge line from Lucknow Jn to Guwahati (after Saraighat bridge opened in 1962) The 1 Up 2 DN Awadh Tirhut Mail that was fondly called...

Vikramshila - Katareah Rail Bridge is part of Naugachia-Pirpainti- Deoghar New Rail Line Project and maximum part of this project lie under ER. But Vikramshila - Katareah Rail Bridge mentioned in ECR Pink book whereas ECR cover only very less part of this project.
Good that this is an ECR project. Better chance of getting completed faster. ER does not pay attention to parts in Bihar. Anyways, the major expense is on the bridge with lies in ECR.

No Deoghar or Godda train is going to skip Bhagalpur, makes no sense. Anyways Nishkant Dubey may not be MP when the bridge is complete in 10 years.

The current bridge is wide enough to hold 2 tracks, why do they need to build a new bridge.
Munger Ganga bridge is wider than Patna Digha bridge that is 2 lanes.
