+2, Like, +1 - they are all the same. A +4 on this site is equivalent to saying "2 people like this post" or "2 people gave this a +1".
Why +2? Facebook started the "Like" scheme, and people already use that button in a different manner. Google has already started the +1 scheme. The +2
is native to this site, and so won't be misinterpreted with FB and Google. All the above rating schemes can be read in exactly the same manner.
As mentioned before, all this is to discourage negative emotions within this site and forum. With this scheme, if there is a such an emotion, please leave the post alone and move on.
Gold Star: Like before, any post touching +20 (at least, 10 members like this post) will get the Gold Star. With all Admins, moderator and members on a level field now, everyone gets an equal vote.
