We first ran trials for 160 kmph capable trains back in the 60s but it took us more than 50 years to get it running. Howrah Rajdhani still follows approx. the same time table as when it was introduced. We barely did anything in the 70s and 80s in terms of railway improvements. China, economicallly, was worse than us till the 70s but they rose meteorically after that.
