The Confederation of All India Rail Users’ Associations has urged the Minister of State for External Affairs V. Muraleedharan to address problems facing train passengers in Malabar.
Association president C.E. Chakkuny and general secretary C.C. Manoj said Railways should introduce Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) service between Shoranur and Mangaluru and operate an inter-city express between Yeshwantpur and Mangaluru via Shoranur.
Besides, they demanded more reserved and unreserved compartments in all busy trains passing through the State.
said the proposal to operate new MEMU services in the Palakkad division had been pending with the headquarters for a while.
According to the Railways, additional platforms have been sanctioned at the Kannur station. However, there are land constraints for establishing a pit line in Kannur.
Officials said the Railway Board was yet to take a decision on the introduction of Kannur-Thiruvananthapuram Shathabdi Express and a double-decker train between Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram.
