: Highl ighting the city's mobility crisis, Bengaluru South MP
Tejasvi Surya on Friday said 14 Bengaluru-bound long-distance trains
should terminate on the outskirts and a local train should run in the city
every 10 minutes during peak hours.
Surya,

who submitted a representation to the railway ministry, held talks
with divisional railway manager (Bengaluru) Ashok Kumar Verma on how
train-related infrastructure could be ramped up to improve the traffic
situation. Batting for #PeakHoursForLocals campaign, Surya said it is
necessary to prioritise intra-city commute for officegoers during peak
hours over long-distance travel from other states.
The MP presented a list of long-distance trains entering city limits during peak hours and suggested their terminating points be
shifted to satellite stations like Byappanahalli, Yelahanka, Doddaballapura, Hosur and Bidadi. He felt Memu/Demu trains should
operate within the city from 6am to 10am and from 4pm to 9pm every day.
" Bengaluru's roads are operating beyond saturation point and mass transit options of BMTC buses and Metro are insufficient
to address the current travel demand," he said. He suggested the train from Nagercoil be terminated at Hosur; Kannur train at
Bidadi; Mumbai train at Doddaballapura/Yelahanka; Kanyakumari, Ernakulam, Patna, Tirupati and Latur trains at Byappanahalli.
He sought a superfast express between Bengaluru and Mumbai.
