Central Railway’s many staff are working silently during this difficult time. Gateman at various locations are playing an important role for smooth running of trains during lockdown due to COVID-19. Gatemen are doing their duty with high responsibility and efficiency.
Shri Rajniranjan Choubey, Gateman is one among such silent warriors who is playing an important role to maintain the smooth running of the trains. He is performing duty at Engineering Gate No.18 between Vangani and Shelu station. Shri Nitin More and Narendrakumar are performing shift duty at the same gate with Shri Choubey.
Ratandeep Dalvi is a gateman at Traffic Gate No.51A, near Titwala. Shri Rohidas Kakad is another gateman working at the same gate on shift duty with Shri Dalvi.
They are fully trained about the working and aware about the rules and duties when unusual occurrences happen. Gateman’s job is challenging one to perform. Many times, vehicle drivers try to enter the gate while the train is approaching the railway crossing gate. Vehicle drivers are always in a hurry whenever they approach the railway crossing gate and try to cross even after the warning alarm is on. Gatemen counsel them and inform them it is for their own safety and for the safety of passengers they are transporting. It is also illegal to trespass the gate when it is closed. Entering the closed gate is not only dangerous to intruder but also to the passengers of the train approaching the gate.
Gateman is always Alert. He observes all passing trains and is ready to take action as may be necessary to ensure safety of trains. If a signal near the gate is defective, the gateman uses a hand signal or pilot the train past the defective signal. In the event of a gate signal becoming defective the gateman maintains the signal in ‘ON’ position if necessary.
A big salute to all such unsung heroes involved in safe operation of trains.
