Technical bids for design and construction of a large chunk of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) project were opened today by National High-Speed Rail Corporation Ltd (NHSRCL).
AFCONS, Larsen and Toubro and a consortium comprising of NCC, J Kumar, Tata Projects have emerged as the bidders.
Covering 47% of the total alignment, the technical bids were for the 237 km section of the 508 km route between Vapi and Vadodara stations in Gujarat.
is set to begin on this stretch as 83% of the land has been acquired for the project already. Four stations, 24 river and 30 road crossings are part of this package. Bharuch, Surat, Billimora and Vapi stations fall on this alignment.
The Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail corridor is expected to generate about ninety thousand direct and indirect jobs, according to NHSRCL.
As much as 75 lakh metric tons of cement, 21 lakh tons of steel and 1.4 lakh metric tons of structural steel will be used in the project.
