Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) said that during this pandemic, to keep the economy moving and to meet the demand of essential and other commodities, highest-ever freight loading of 114.82 Metric Tonnes (MT) was done in May by Indian railways despite constraints.

Gupta said that steps included equipping the existing railway hospitals for treatment of Covid patients, installing oxygen plants in hospitals to meet the Covid-19 needs, organizing vaccination drives for its employees etc. N.F. Railway has provided facilities for treatment of Covid positive patients in 6 of its Railway Hospitals with a total of 354 beds. Each of these special wards has all the basic healthcare facilities required for the treatment of Covid positive patients and more than 1250 patients have been treated in these hospitals since April, 2021. 7 Oxygen plants are also planned to be installed in various hospitals of NFR. 19 vaccination centers are in operation all over N.F. Railway. Nearly 95% RPF and 72% Health Care Workers of NFR received their 2nd dose already. About 64% of the serving employees also got their 1st dose.
He added that Indian Railway is running Oxygen Express trains to bring relief to needy states by creating a Green Corridor for faster movement of this life saving consignment. First Oxygen Express was run between Mumbai to Vizag on 19th April 2021. 440 Oxygen Express trains have already completed their delivery in various states by carrying 31704 MT of LMO till yesterday. Already 7 Oxygen Express trains have also arrived in Assam with 560 MT of LMO.
Northeast Frontier Railway released 11659 freight rakes during 2020-21 against 9731 rakes previous year which is a growth of 20%. During May this year 1135 rakes were unloaded against 708 rakes last year with an increase of 60.31%. Average speed of Goods trains increased to 44.52 kmph from 36.10 kmph during June, 21 till date. (+23.32%).
19 new stations opened for handling of goods traffic, 12 new stations opened for handling of parcel traffic and 24x7 loading/unloading facilities were provided in 23 goods sheds to help economy and generate income for labours involved in loading/ unloading.
103 Kisan Rails were run by NFR including 64 incoming from other railways. 39 Kisan Rails were run by NFR to provide cheaper & faster transportation solution to the farmers of Northeast so that they can easily send their local produce to bigger markets in India and abroad.
Despite of Covid related restrictions, nearly 72% passenger train services have been planned to be restored in our area by mid of July. At present, we are running 49 pairs Specials Mail/Express trains and 5 pairs Local Passenger trains per day for the persons who are in urgent need for travel. Running of 21 more pairs of Specials Mail/Express trains have already been notified. In Indian Railway 889 Special Mail/Express train are being operated daily on an average. Situation is being monitored for introduction of more trains in near future in consultation with respective state governments.
