Indian Railways is gearing up to run a full train with just Economy AC-3 tier coaches, similar to the concept of the Humsafar Express. Economy AC 3 tier class of travel is the latest offering by railways, aimed at making air-conditioned travel more affordable for the common man. Fares of Economy AC 3 are 8% less than the regular AC-3 tier coaches. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw recently inspected the newly manufactured coaches and said that efforts should be made to run a full train consisting of AC-3 tier Economy coaches. A railway official told TOI that once the necessary number of coaches are available, a train will be run on a trial basis to understand the demand and occupancy trends. The official said that any zone would need at least 16-18 coaches to run the train. One thought is to try and run a full Economy AC3 train in the ongoing
** about two-third of IR's revenue goes into Wages and Pension which is not sustainable in long run. This % used to be just below 50% about 20years ago. Unless IR could bring it to below 50% it is doomed to fail as an organisation. **Private players can play a significant role in railway transportation, only after an independent regulator with adequate powers is created to give level playing field to them with respect to their prime competetor i.e. Indian Railway.
All this is done intentionally i think to make railway loss more and then sell to private. If u see in this past few years in many sectors flight passenger increased and train passenger decreased... as flexifare scheme has made train and flight fare almost same and in some cases train 1A, 2A fare is more than flights if u book flight tickets in advance but travel time in trains has increased thanks to so call eyewash Mission Raftar. In media and on paper trains running at 130kmph in many sections and planning for 160kmph but in reality the travel time end to end has either increased or is same as before.
Now latest addition is freight train derailment increased,
I thought the pension system was done away with. And only folks who worked at IR before the law was bought in are paid now?
No i don't believe it is stupidity because 1 can be 2 can be but the whole ministry cannot be brother..... Everybody is highly educated there at RB including very educated RM. What we can see and find out do u not think those educated persons don't see that or cannot see /find out that and workout on that? No decisions is taken alone by anyone every decision in IR is a collective decision and requires many Approvals.
** Pension system is very much bleeding Indian Railways. Currently, about 23% of total revenue of IR goes into pension payment.
** Employees who joined IR before a particular year probably around 2005 shall be getting pension from IR after their retirement.
** Those joining after the particular date shall get NPS after retirement which shall happen around 2035-2040.
