The goods train was travelling at approximately 45 kmph at the time of the accident. The cause of the signal failure was attributed to lightning and thunderstorms. The incident is currently under investigation, with the Commissioner of Railway Safety conducting a detailed inquiry. The locopilot of the goods train violated speed restrictions, as he was required to travel at 15 kmph with caution, looking for obstructions.
