1960s, IR undertook the first radical shift in motive power technology by adopting three-phase traction technology in step with the emerging global consensus. Accordingly, a ToT agreement was signed on Jul-1993 between Ministry of Railways and ABB Transportation. CLW was mandated to undertake the ToT (not RDSO)."----------- So 3 Phase technology comes to India already 55 years ago (1960 to 2015) still we can't embrace this 3 Phase Loco 100 %------ What a tragedy.
It's really shameful that 55 years before our country adopting 3 Phase Technology till now we are in the "IFS" and "BUTS" with High Speed Loco.
Also know the History of Birth of WAP-7 Locomotive, which is a "Useful One".
According to this news WAP-7 is older than WAP-1 and WAP-4 which I think many of us can't know if this article is not shared here.

Why 3 Phase technology can't flourish in IR ?
Probably the following statement is the answer:
"It was interesting that while the new technology was being assimilated and the railway engineers were pushing the frontiers in a globally acclaimed effort, in an act of bureaucratic bloodbath, the core design team was disbanded just four years after first locomotive was turned out.
