SHRI SURESH PRABHAKAR PRABHU DEDICATES THE NEWLY ELECTRIFIED GHAZIABAD-MEERUT-SAHARANPUR RAIL SECTION AND ALSO LAYS THE FOUNDATION STONE FOR PROVISION OF ESCALATOR & LIFTS AT MEERUT CITY STATION

Sanctioned in the year 2007-08, theMeerut Cant(Excl)-Saharanpur Railway(Excl) electrification includes a route of 106 Km and covers a total 155 track kms.This is part of the Khurja-Meerut City-Saharanpur electrification project. The approx cost of electrification of Meerut Cant(Excl)-Saharanpur Railway(Excl) section is Rs.109 crore and the mandatory Commissioner of Railway Safety certification was given o­n 12.03.2016. The original contract of the Overhead Equipment was awarded to M/s TATA Project Hyderabad in July 2008. There are twoTraction Substations in the section viz. Jaruada Nara and Tapri besides 5 switching stations also called Sectioning and Paralleling posts for purpose of isolating sectors for maintenance and repairs. The electrification of the route involved suitable design modifications to cater to 13 stations o­n the route besides structures viz. 5 Foot-over-Bridges, 9 Road-over-Bridges and 4 Rail Bridges besides 50 level-crossing gates. It was thatthe electrification of this rail section which is part of theKhurja-Meerut City-Saharanpur electrification projectwill serve as a by-pass route avoiding Delhi area, thus, releasing the line capacity required in and around Delhi area.
On the same occasion, the Hon’ble Minister also laid the foundation stone for escalator and lift at Meerut City station in keeping with budgetary commitment for provision of escalators and lifts progressively at major stations. The sanctioned estimate cost of the facility is Rs.2.52 Cr for provision of 2 nos. of escalators & 02 lifts (holding 13 people capacity) o­ne at PF2 & 3 of Meerut City station and o­neat old FOB at PF No. 1.
Speaking o­n the occasion, the Hon’ble Minister stated thatthe Railway was consistently working towards catering to people’s needs. Through consistent endeavour, the Railway has doubled track construction from 4 kms to 8kms per day and this will be enhanced further in the year ahead. Through focussed monitoring project implementation has quickened and transparency improved. Currently, the work ofstrengthening of power distribution system at substation and improvement of power supply & lighting arrangement with LED luminaries o­n the section is under progress. As Meerut is part of the Khurja-Talheri section of theEastern Dedicated Freight Corridor EDFC), the Railway also proposes to provide suitable upgradation of structure/equipment/utilities at Meerut in tandem with the construction of EDFC project.This would definitely boost the socio-economic infrastructure of the city and contiguous areas. The Railway also proposes to install10Kwp Solar system at Khatauli & Tapri Railway stations o­n the section.
