The Congress has demanded the extension of the Talwara broad gauge railway line to the Sansarpur Terrace industrial area of Kangra district.
Rajender Sharma, a Congress leader from Jaswan Pragpur, said in a press note here today that due to the failure of the government, the Jaswan Pragpur industrial area had been shifted to Sansarpur Terrace. Jaswan Pragpur lacked even basic facilities as it was ignored for the past nine years.
He said Jaswan Pragpur MLA Bikram Thakur, who is state Industry Minister, had got many small and big industries established in Sansarpur
“However, the area does not have a railway line, which can be easily provided by extending the Talwara line to Sansarpur Terrace,” he added.
Sharma said the Una-Talwara railway line was being connected to Daulatpur via Talwara in Punjab, the work for which was going on a war footing.

Fernando Alonso has joined Aston Martin on a multi-year starting from the 2023 Formula 1 season.

The two-time F1 world champion will leave Alpine at the end of the season to join Aston Martin, acting as the latest bombshell in the F1 driver market.

will replace the retiring Sebastian Vettel, and opens up a seat with Alpine that looks set to be taken by Oscar Piastri.

Alonso said on Sunday after the Hungarian Grand Prix that he was confident his future would be sewn up by the time F1 returned from its summer break at the end of August.

But a rapid conclusion to talks with Aston Martin now means he will jump ship and link up with the British team owned by Lawrence Stroll for 2023 and beyond.

“This Aston Martin team is clearly applying the energy and commitment to win, and it is therefore one of the most exciting teams in Formula One today,” said Alonso in a statement.

“I have known Lawrence and Lance for many years and it is very obvious that they have the ambition and passion to succeed in Formula One.  I have watched as the team has systematically attracted great people with winning pedigrees, and I have become aware of the huge commitment to new facilities and resources at Silverstone.

“No one in Formula One today is demonstrating a greater vision and absolute commitment to winning, and that makes it a really exciting opportunity for me. I still have the hunger and ambition to fight to be at the front, and I want to be part of an organisation that is committed to learn, develop and succeed.”

The news also comes less than 24 hours after Alpine F1 boss Otmar Szafnauer expressed confidence that Alonso would stay with the team for 2023 and beyond, predicting talks would be “very straightforward.”

Alpine has been trying for some time to find a seat for reserve driver Piastri, and looked set to loan him out to Williams for next year.

But Alonso’s exit now means Piastri looks poised to step up and join Esteban Ocon at the team from 2023.

Alonso will link back up with Martin Whitmarsh at Aston Martin, who he worked with at McLaren back in 2007. At 41, it looks set to be one of Alonso’s final F1 moves, but the multi-year deal acts as a sign of his commitment to keep racing.

Stroll acquired the Aston Martin team back in 2019 when it was known as Racing Point before rebranding it under the name of the British manufacturer for 2021.

A significant investment drive is underway in the facilities at Silverstone, setting out a five year plan to be fighting for world championships.

The team currently sits ninth in the championship, but Alonso felt confident it was the right place to be if he wants to win again in F1.

“The passion and desire to perform that I have witnessed convince me to maintain my enjoyment and commitment to the sport,” said Alonso.

“I intend to win again in this sport and therefore I have to take the opportunities that feel right to me.”

Protest against the Centre’s Agnipath scheme took a violent turn on Saturday when over three dozen masked youths carrying sticks and iron rods vandalised the local railway station.
They smashed the windowpanes at the main entrance of the station, broke LED signboards and damaged the property. The protesters then smashed the windowpanes of a train standing on the platform. The police reached the spot and tried to pacify them.
Youths were protesting peacefully at Bharat Nagar Chowk. But when they started marching towards Dugra Mata Temple, some miscreants incited them after which they
damaged a PCR and vandalised the railway station. RS Brar, Joint Commissioner of Police
After the incident, Police Commissioner Kaustubh Sharma and senior officers of the Government Railway Police reached the spot.
“We appeared in the physical fitness exam for the Army recruitment under the unit headquarter quota for the Sikh Regimental Centre in Ramgarh Cantonment in 2020, but our written test has been postponed. Now with the Agnipath scheme, we may not be considered for the written exam,” said a protester during police questioning.
Initially, protesters, carrying placards demanding the pending Common Entrance Exam and against the Agnipath scheme, protested at Bharat Nagar Chowk. Later, they marched towards Durga Mata Temple Chowk where they damaged a PCR vehicle. Soon, an alert was already sounded but a few cops present at a naka could not stop the protesters, who then entered the railway station.
Notably, the police also impounded a Scorpio belonging to a farm leader on the suspicion that the protesters had been transported to the railway station in that vehicle. Eight youths have been detained so far.
Joint Commissioner of Police RS Brar said: “We will nab the miscreants who incited violence. Protesters were aged around 21-25 years.”
Meanwhile, residents trolled the police on social media. One of the posts read: “When protesters damaged the PCR vehicle at Durga Mata Temple Chowk, the police had ample time to control the situation. However, the protesters still marched towards the Jagraon Bridge, where they damaged the barricading in the presence of cops and then headed to the railway station and vandalised it. It’s a clear failure of the police.”
However, no case was registered till filing of the report.
Bathinda: Following the violent protest in Ludhiana, security has been beefed up at Bathinda, Mansa, Maur, Rampura Phul and other railway stations as a preventive measure. Senior officials have been monitoring the situation since Saturday morning. Besides Railway Protection Force, the local police and the GRP have been deployed to prevent any untoward incident.

Residents of Harsar and Palanth gram panchayats in Jawali subdivision of Kangra district are objecting to the boundary wall being constructed by the Railways near the Harsar-Dehri railway station, which will block the pedestrian path to their villages. The ongoing construction work has also created resentment among shopkeepers of the adjoining market, as it will also block their shops.
The irate villagers, led by Mamta Devi, pradhan of Harsar gram panchayat, and social activist Kamal Kumar yesterday met local MLA Arjun Thakur and appealed to him to get the ongoing construction of the boundary wall stopped.
the villagers had submitted a memorandum to Indu Goswami, Rajya Sabha member, and Kishan Kapoor, Lok Sabha MP from Kangra. They also gave a copy of the written agreement between the Railways authorities and locals signed on October 31,1992 in the presence of the then Kangra Lok Sabha MP DD Khanuria in which the Railways Department had agreed not to construct the boundary wall.
The villagers lamented that the Railways, which had a written agreement with locals for not constructing the boundary wall, had backed out of its commitment (Copy of the agreement is with The Tribune). They said that if the wall was constructed, the affected shopkeepers would lose their livelihood and rural people would lose connectivity to the pedestrian path.
They said that the people of the area were using the pedestrian path for the past over five decades and its sudden closure would cause inconvenience to them.
Meanwhile, the MLA said that he had already taken up the issue with the MPs and would also meet them to get the issue resolved.
