In view of the weekend curfew that will come into effect from April 24, the Namma Metro operations will be shut down on Saturdays and Sundays. "Metro services will be closed down for the whole day (on Saturdays and Sundays) in view of the weekend curfew," Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) said in a release.
Officials have also changed the timings of the week-day operations between Monday and Friday. Metro services will commence at 7 am but the last service from terminal stations will leave at 7.30 pm instead of the 9 pm at present.

The presence of two major slum pockets in the vicinity is stated to be a reason for the thefts, according to eyewitnesses at the spot
Even as the brand new Sir M Visvesvaraya terminal at Baiyappanahalli awaits inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, minor thefts of all kinds are reported to be taking place here on a regular basis. To counter it, the Railways has now deputed the Railway Protection Force (RPF) to guard the sprawling premises 24x7.

reason for the thefts, according to eyewitnesses at the spot. Another version states that some contractors hired to effect infrastructure work in the terminal have themselves pocketed some of the items.
Electrical sockets, sophisticated bulbs, flower pots, construction material (which are yet to be removed as some final touches are being given), plastic pipes and steel rods are among items which have gone missing from the station.
Top railway officials were reluctant to discuss the issue and sought to play it down. One official said, "Just like how thefts take place in your area and everywhere in the city, it is happening there too."
The terminal is expected to have one of the best CCTV arrangements in the country. However, none of the cameras have been put up as of now for fear they might get stolen or damaged unless the station becomes operational. "We also have many TV display screens that highlight train schedule, speakers and water taps in our possession and have stored them in godowns. None of them have been put up as of now," said a senior railway official. "It will only take one day for officers to install them. As soon as the launch date is confirmed, we plan to put them up," he added.
"We had requested RPF protection for the safekeep of the station and have got it now," the official added.
Senior Divisional Security Commissioner, RPF, Debashmita Chattopadhyay Banerjee told The New Indian Express, "RPF has already put into place authorised access control and are going to enforce the station security plan. The list of CCTV cameras and security gadgets to be installed have been given to the Constructions department of the South Western Railway. This was decided upon after a joint survey by top officers of the Government Railway Police, RPF and the Signalling and Telecommunication department of the Railways."
When this reporter visited the spot a month ago, a cop stationed there recalled multiple instances of young boys from slums nearby coming over late at nights, stealing construction material put there and making good their escape. "In one instance, a lad brought his scooter, placed many long pipes in front and left. I literally ran behind him on a major chase but could not nab him. Once they enter the slum area, we do not know the way around but they know it well," he said.
Unless there is some kind of patrolling done by local police, the public visiting this station will have an unsafe travelling experience, the cop added.

The chief of the railway board is set to visit the Sir M Visvesvaraya Terminal at Byappanahalli, whose inauguration is overdue.
Chairman and CEO of the Railway Board, Suneet Sharma, who is also the ex officio principal secretary to the government of India, is scheduled to inspect the terminal in East Bengaluru. He is expected to answer questions over the delayed inauguration of the terminal though most of the work was completed in the second week of March.
Sources in the South Western Railway said officials were still expecting the prime minister to inaugurate India’s first fully air-conditioned train terminal.

The Sir M Visvesvaraya railway terminal at Baiyappanahalli will be inaugurated soon, said Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Railway Board, Suneet Sharma. Briefing the media along with top railway officials at the Rail Wheel Factory at Yelahanka on Sunday, Sharma said, “We have planned for the inauguration and will get some time from the Prime Minister. It will be inaugurated very soon.”
Asked if it could happen this month, he said, “It looks very difficult.” He was speaking after inspecting the new terminal. Sharma lauded the facilities at the station and billed it as having the best infrastructure in Indian Railways. “It is in tune with the development of Bengaluru as one of the hubs in the country.

It will provide the much needed respite to Bengaluru as the other two terminals (KSR and Yeshwantpur) sometimes feel congested,” he said.
Asked about the maintenance part, Bengaluru Divisional Railway Manager A K Verma said, “The contract for mechanised cleaning has already been finalised.” General Manager, South Western Railway, A K Singh said, “We will have similar cleaning facilities like the Metro.”
To a query on the trains that will shift to the new terminal, Verma said, “We have already identified 32 pairs of trains. After full train services are reintroduced, they will start one by one.” “Pre-Covid, we used to run 1,702 trains per day including Mail and Express services.
Today, we are running 1,350 of those trains. We are running 10 per cent of Passenger trains. They are
unreserved ones and the protocol has to be very strict,” Sharma said. He did not respond to a query on the loss suffered by the Railways due to disruption of its services. “As far as financials are concerned, we are generally doing very well and meeting all our liabilities,” he said.

I have heard that along with this new terminal which is probably one of its kind AC terminal, there are also plans to lay foundation for the suburban rail project as well. Since these are big ticket projects for Bangalore they want to to get maximum mileage. Online inaugration may not gove them the visibility hence maybe they are wating for it to be inaugrated personally !!!

The BBMP has begun the work on upgrading the road from Mukund Theatre to the terminal and further to the existing road over bridge
The BBMP has started building an approach road to the Sir M Visvesvaraya Terminal from Mukund Theatre even as approval is awaited from the Centre for opening the country's first air-conditioned train station at Baiyappanahalli.
The South Western Railway (SWR) hopes to get the terminal — which has been ready along with the technically advanced control room for about a week now — inaugurated by the prime minister.
"The

facility is ready for commissioning. We are waiting for communication from the railway board, which is coordinating with the prime minister's office," an official in the SWR headquarters told DH.
Meantime, following a letter from the SWR's engineering section, the BBMP has started working on the approach road.
Noting that the four-lane road between Mukund Theatre and Old Madras Road and the rotary flyover at the MS Palya junction proposed by the BBMP would require time, the railways had requested upgrading the existing road on a temporary basis.
The BBMP has begun the work on upgrading the road from Mukund Theatre to the terminal and further to the existing road overbridge that would allow access to Old Madras Road.
"The overbridge at the Kallapalli railway gate is nearing completion and is likely to be commissioned in the next two months," the railways had said in the letter.
Once complete, the bridge will bring major relief to commuters as it will pave the way for the smooth flow of traffic between Old Madras Road and MS Palya. Still, the delay by the state government in providing land for laying a new road from the existing Baiyappanahalli railway station to the new terminal would deprive thousands of commuters easy access between metro and railway stations.
