To make it available if alternative sites are not feasible
The State government has said that if the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) does not find the two suggested alternative locations for a bullet train terminus at Kurla technically feasible, it will make available the originally proposed land at the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC).
The State government will inform the Central government of this at a meeting scheduled in New Delhi next week to finalise the project plan. The State has also suggested that the terminus and the proposed International Financial

Services Centre (IFSC) project be integrated and built at the same site.
The Maharashtra government and the Ministry of Railways have been at loggerheads over the location for the terminus. While the Railways have insisted that the Mumbai station be constructed underground at BKC, the State had said the land was reserved for the IFSC much before the terminus was planned.
‘Merge both projects’
Now, however, the State government has written to the NHSRCL saying, “The government of Maharashtra had suggested two alternatives so the viability of the International Financial Services Centre Project is not adversely affected. However, if the alternative locations are not found technically feasible for the bullet train project, the original location suggested by the NHSRCL will be made available with suitable terms and conditions to ensue both projects are merged.”
Earlier, the NHSRCL had ruled out the prospect of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Railway (MAHSR) rolling into Kurla’s Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, which was suggested as an alternative by the State.
The MAHSR was sanctioned by the Indian government in December 2015 and is estimated to cost Rs. 1,08,000 crore. The 508-km railway line will have 12 stations, of which Mumbai, Thane, Virar and Boisar are in Maharashtra.
Assessments underway
The target date of completion for the project is August 2022. A general consultant has been appointed for the project, and the ground survey has also been completed, officials said.
“The geotechnical investigations are complete except in Palghar district. The environmental and social impact assessments and the detailed design are in progress,” a senior official told The Hindu .

It is reported that Maha state govt & MoR are at loggerheads over the issue of underground bullet train terminus at BKC. Underground BKC Bullet train connectivity shall be very helpful to the International Finance Service Centre proposed by Maha Govt. Since diamond quadrilateral of HST network is planned in long run, the BKC Bullet train terminal is likely to be connected to most of the major cities of India.

Palghar: Even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe today launched the Ahmedabad-Mumbai bullet train project, a group of farmers from Boisar in Palghar district protested against the project fearing acquisition of their lands.
The farmers, who held the demonstration outside Boisar railway station, said they will be ruined if their agricultural lands are acquired for the project. During the protest, which was jointly organised by Shetkari Sangarsha Samiti and Advasi Ekta Parisahd, the protesters waved black flags and raised slogans against the project.
Kaluram Dodhade of Bhoomi Sena,

who took part in the protest, said, “There are mostly small farmers in Palghar and if their lands are acquired for the project, they will be ruined.” The protesters also alleged that the BJP-led government was going ahead with the project without taking the farmers into consideration. Palghar DSP Majunath Shinge said, “It was a symbolic protest and there was no law and order situation.”
When contacted, Palghar district collector Prashant Narnavre said the agitation was carried out peaceful. The bullet train project was launched by Modi and Abe in Ahmedabad this morning. Modi described the ambitious Rs 1.10 lakh crore project, which will cut travel time between the two cities from seven hours to less than three, as a “big gift from Japan to India”.

MUMBAI: Two coaches of a passenger train headed to Mumbai inched dangerously on the platform at Boisar due to partial soil erosion caused by heavy water-logging on the tracks on Thursday morning.
Passengers on the Valsad-Mumbai Central Fast Passenger were made to alight after two monthly season ticket coaches of the nine-coach train touched platform 3 at the Boisar railhead at 7am. The train finally departed for its onward journey at 8.25am.
Western Railway officials said water-logging on the tracks in the Up direction (Mumbai-end) caused soil erosion, resulting in two coaches inching

towards the platform. The other coaches were intact.
Up and Down trains in Boisar were running at a restricted speed of 30kmph for the past few days as Palghar district has been receiving heavy rainfall
While work of raising the Up line was under way, trains heading to Mumbai were diverted from the loop line at Boisar. A loop line is a less important line which leaves a main line and rejoins it later, continuing in the same direction. Down traffic (towards Ahmedabad) on platform 2 was mostly unaffected.
Passengers said they felt a jerk when they boarded the train. An announcement was made to vacate the train and passengers realised that the two coaches had sunk. The spot, said railway officials, is low-lying. Work of filling the track with stone ballasts is under way, they added.
WR chief PRO Ravindar Bhakar said, "There was no major risk as there was a speed restriction of 30kmph due to track-related work. There was no major impact on traffic as Mail/Express trains used the loop line

From decongestant roads to reducing vehicular pollution and many other benefits, the RO-RO service is a valuable and much needed addition to our transportation system.
The roll-on-roll-off service for trucks is expected to decongest traffic in Navi Mumbai, Thane, Ghodbundar Road, Bhivandi, Vasai and reduce the pollution.
Indian Railways on 5 January carried out a unique RO-RO service between Pen to Boisar via Vasai Road. The first trial run was successfully carried out between these two stations.
RO-RO

stands for roll-on/roll-off. It is highway system and also called piggyback transportation.
The RO-RO service has been in the operation in India and around the world. The Konkan Railway had first started the RO-RO services in India between Kolad to Surathkal in Karnataka in 1999 where trucks were loaded onto the bogeys using a ramp and elevator. These trucks and trailers were then ferried to the nearest port. With this service system in 2014-15, Konkan Railway is benefitted 47.4 crore, and in 2015-16- 53.3 crore.
At present, at least 500 such trucks ferry goods from JNPT port to Vasai and further north side of country.
The RO-RO service was a demand from the residents of Thane to decongest several roads in the vicinity. The Thane-Belapur road which connects Thane and Navi Mumbai is crucial link road between the port and the northern fringes of the city. It also acts as a link to Pune-Bengaluru highway down south and the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway in the north. RO-RO service is expected to decongest these corridors by taking trucks off this road which in addition will reduce the vehicular pollution. A RO-Ro service rake can carry 40-50 trucks and help save approximately 10 litres of diesel per kilometres.

Success of MUM-AHM HST depends on many factors, some are with in the control of IR/Govt and many are out of control.
.
Govt/IR need to manage it in a better way and try to replicate the Japanese Shinkanshen Model which is financially performing best among all the HSTs including the rich European countries like France, Germany, Italy, Spain, GB etc.
.
Indian

conditions are similar to Japanese conditions i.e. very high traffic potential, The major factor which have to be managed is to keep the prices as low as possible so that a substantial fraction of Middle class, upper middle class can afford it.
.
Economic performance of India in next 8 years is the most crucial factor, if GDP/per capita income increase at fast rate, and benefits passed on to all classes (not just the riches), the paying power of public shall be high enough to avail the HST trains.
.
But the current trend in Indian economy, where state govts & central govts are competing to give almost all kind of subsidies/ privileges to strengthen their vote banks does not gel well for the future of Bullet trains. A major portion of subsidies are syphoned off and give rise to black money. Instead subsidies should be provided to manpower intensive industries so that people get employment and become financially strong.
.
Delhi Mumbai Industrial corridor under implementation is expected to bring in much needed development along the MUM-AHM HST route and a good stream of paxs is expected after some years of operation of HST.
