MANGALURU: TEJAS EXPRESS UP TO KARWAR? Bangalore Mirror Bureau | Updated: Jun 1, 2017, 11.18 PM IST
Will the Mumbai-Goa Tejas Express, the country’s first high-speed semi-luxurious train, be extended to Karwar? Minister for railways Suresh Prabhu, who was in Karwar, acknowledged – and appreciated – a suggestion seeking the extension of the train to Karnataka.
The minister inaugurated improved passenger amenities at various stations in the Karwar region. At Gokarna station, he inaugurated the extension of platform. The minister also initiated work of many passenger amenities. At Karwar station, he initiated provision
Madgaon-Mangluru section does not have enough traffic potential to justify the extension of premium Tejas which have more than 1000 ACC+EC seats.
22635/6 Madgaon - Mangaluru Central Intercity Express is operated with only 8 coaches 1ACC, 4-IIS, 1GEN, 2SLRs.
Although I don't agree with the demand for extension of Tejas to Mangaluru but if extended people will travel to Mumbai in Tejas not only to Madgaon, so I don't find your comparison that much relevant. But I don't know whether Tejas would get much patronage from there.
The intercity which you mentioned runs only between Mluru-Mgaon, hence poor patronage. But when we see people travelling between Mumbai-Mangaluru, it's good or above average. Both the current trains run full(Matsyagandha and Majn SF), erstwhile netravathi exp was also famous before extending it to Kerala. For testing of pax, they should extend this at-least weekly once
No Poor Patronage Now In Intercity.
All coaches Full including 2S and UR and only some seats will be vaccant in AC .
Not able to add more coaches as many coaches, which were there earlier is used in many other trains now.
* If there are waiting lists, the IR must augment it with appropriate coaches.
* A passenger train can recover costs if it runs with maximum number of coaches with a higher fraction of AC coaches (esp. ACIII) and runs with almost full occupancy.
* Operation an express/SF with 8 coach is not financially justified even with 100% occupancy, because revenue from such a train is likely to be less than 50% of operational costs.
This is good news for tejas if extended, Full Konkan Tejas Exp.
