The police arrested 200 cadre of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) at various places in Thanjavur district on Friday when they attempted a rail roko agitation urging India to take steps to remove Sri Lanka from Commonwealth.
In Thanjavur, the cadre led by Veeran Vetrivendhan, Thanjavur west district secretary, tried to enter the railway station, and were arrested. Cadre of the VCK were arrested at Kumbakonam and Papanasam.
KARUR: Functionaries of Naam Tamilar Iyakkam staged protests in Karur and Kulithalai on Friday protesting the demolition of Mullivaikkal memorial in Thanjavur and the police action
against Tamil Eelam sympathisers.
Cadre of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi blocked the Coimbatore-Nagercoil passenger near Karur junction to protest India’s participation in the CHOGM. Police took into custody a total of 65 cadre.
