AHMEDABAD: If everything goes to plan, Sabarmati railway station will see its first train originate from there in March next year. Western Railway has decided to construct five platforms which will be able to handle stoppages of 24-coach trains. Divisional railway officer Rahul Agarwal said construction work has begun and is likely to be completed by January. The five remaining trains will also get the services soon. The railways will promote its Clean my Coach mobile app and posters will be put on trains to make more people use it. The railways has been getting nearly 200 complaints everyday about coach cleaning. The DRM also said that barring platforms 8 and 9, all platforms will have lifts. Platform 12, like the platform 1, will have an escalator.
Ahmedabad: Railway minister Suresh Prabhu, who is visiting the state on Tuesday, will inaugurate a series of projects including electrification and gauge conversion of Ahmedabad-Mehsana track and a third line between Ahmedabad and Vatva. The minister will lay the foundation stone of these projects at Mehsana. He will arrive in the city on Tuesday and head to Mehsana by train. The minister will also lay foundation stones for various other projects. Officials said that the third line between Ahmedabad and Vatva will facilitate quicker terminus management for trains. Officials said that several trains coming from Mumbai get delayed in absence of the third line as there is lot of congestion. Sources said that trains like Karnavati and Double decker have to wait for nearly 20 minutes because of the congestion on the lines towards Mumbai. The third line will help to take the trains to other platforms. Officials said that apart from this, the Ahmedabad-Delhi route will also go electric. The route electrification project was announced last year. Officials said that the minister will also lay the foundation stone for the guage conversion between Ahmedabad and Mehsana. With this conversion, the entire Ahmedabad-Delhi stretch will have double track, barring a small stretch between Mehsana and Palanpur. At present Ashram Express to Delhi from Ahmedabad takes 16 hours but with the double track the time will be reduced to 14 hours, said railway officials. Apart from these, Prabhu will lay the foundation stone for gauge conversion for Mehsana-Taranga Hill, Miygam-Samlaya, Bhuj-Naliya, Somnath-Kodinar and a new line of Modasa to Shamlaji. He will also inaugurate the project of double-track between Surendranagar and Rajkot.

Absolutely Correct... There is a lot of space available and south and mumbai, pune bound trains can easily ply over congestion free....But i think the only problem may be the zoo nearby...as in case the terminus noise and people movement would be for almost 24 hrs which authorities may not permit as the zoo is in nearby vicinity.
The rail traffic on Ahmedabad-Mumbai railway route was disrupted for nearly 30 minutes after a cow was run over by a goods train. According to railway officials, the incident took place late in the evening which was a busy time on Mumbai route. raiwlay officials said that side fencing at several places between Kalupur and Maninagar stations has got damaged which results in stray cattle coming on the track. The officials said that residentials areas and the societies nearby too add to the problem by dumping garbage along the tracks.
