If you come out of station through 1st entrance (i.e, from 1st PF), there will be plenty of buses always to OLD BUS STAND ONLY, which is an important town bus station from where you get buses every where in and around Thanjavur. Also in OLD BUS STAND, you will get moffusil buses to KUMBAKONAM, ARIYALUR, SALEM (less frequent), MAYILADUTURAI, CHIDAMBARAM (moderate frequency), CUDDALORE (less frequent). 2. It is most preferred to take a bus to OLD BUS STAND and change if you are going to following locations. BALAJI NAGAR, MUNICIPAL COLONY, MEDICAL COLLEGE, PASSPORT OFFICE, SOUTH ZONE CULTURALS, VALLAM, SENGIPATTI, KANDIYUR, THIRUVAIYARU, THIRUKKATUPALLI, AYYAMPETTAI, PAPANASAM, KABISTHALAM, PALLI AGRAHARAM, KODIMARATHU MOOLAI, SRINIVASAPURAM, REDDIPALAYAM, KALLAPERAMBUR, ALAKKUDI, BUDALUR, TITTE (SRI VASHISHTESHWARAR TEMPLE), MELATOOR.

If you are going to locations other than this, then, if you come out of the station and cross the road, opposite to Central post office, there will be buses which directly takes to these locations. every 2 mins once you will get buses for RAMANATHAN, HOUSING UNIT, NEW BUS STAND side, 74 And other series. If you want to go to any other town, then please go to NEW BUS STAND, as it is the hub of MOFFUSIL BUSES. There you will get buses for all locations except CHENNAI BUSES, Which is near OLD BUS STAND.

Also, you can avail buses there for GURUDAYAL SHARMA, GNANAM NAGAR, MARIYAMMAN KOVIL, POONDI, POONDI PUSHPAM COLLEGE, SALIYAMANGALAM AMMAPETTAI, KOVILVENNI (ANJALAI AMMAL COLLEGE), NIDAMANGALAM, SADAYARKOVIL, ARITHUVARAMANGALAM, PULLAVARAYAN KUDIKADU, etc.. (These ply in common route till SALIYAMANGALAM/AMMAPETTAI).

You will get Gejalakshme, A16 and 454 towards PAPANASAM via SALIYAMANGALAM, THIRUKARUKAAVUR. which is longet route for PAPANASAM and bus frequency is very less

Also you will get bus for PATTUKOTAI BYE - PASS, SOORAKOTTAI, ULUR, ORATHANAD and for NEYVASAL, VADUVUR Side, 21 Series and Prema. One bus is available for MADUKKUR also (will bifurcate at PAPANADU)

Mini Buses, some times town buses and share autos will be available for NANJIKOTTAI ROAD, NANJIKOTTAI, EB COLONY, VILAR, MARUNGULAM, etc..

There is also bus to AIR FORCE STATION, IIFPT, GANDARVAKOTTAI direct via NEW BUS STAND, but frequency is less. This 60 series bus comes. Also there are some buses to VALLAM via NEW BUS STAND.

3. If you come out of second entrance and walk a bit, you see a road there. Buses From NEW BUS STAND to OLD BUS STAND you can take without crossing the road. But you need to cross the road to take bus that comes from OLD BUS STAND to NEW BUS STAND.
As you come outside, if you cross the road and walk to your left side for some time, you can also get buses to NANJIKOTTAI area that bifurcates there.

5. In 16780 if you want to book from TJ to KPD, Then book from MDU/Madurai to TPTY/Tirupati and Board at Thanjavur Jn, get down at Vellore/Katpadi if you wanted to go to Vellore. Vice versa for 16779, book from TPTY/Tirupati to MDU/Madurai, change boarding point to KPD/Katpadi or VLR/Vellore if you are alighting at Vellore and Get down at Thanjavur.

6. In 16187 if you want to book from TJ to CBE/PGT/OTP, Then book till TCR/Thrissur and get down at these places. Vice versa for 16188, book from TCR/Thrissur, board at PGT/Palakkad Jn or Coimbatore and Get down at Thanjavur.

7. In 16793 if you want to book from ET/JBP/ALD to TJ, Then book from JNU/Jaunpur and board at Allahabad Jn, Jabalpur and Itarsi.

8. In 16105 if you want to book from TJ to Tirunelveli/Tiruchendur, Then book from CGL/Chengalpattu and Board at Thanjavur Jn. Vice versa for 16106, book till CGL/Chengalpattu and Get down at Thanjavur.

9. In 16106 if you want to book from TJ to MS, Then book from TEN/Tirunelveli and Board at Thanjavur Jn. Vice versa for 16105, book till Tirunelveli and Get down at Thanjavur.

If you are going to Some Famous Colleges In and Around Thanjavur, Then follow this simple steps.

1. If you are going to SASTRA or PRIST University or National Institute of Technology, Thuvakudi, then come out of first enterance, cross the road, opposite to Post office, take a town bus to NEW BUS STAND, from there take ORDINARY/EXPRESS buses only towards Tiruchchirapalli and alight at Vallam for PRIST, SASTRA will be in highways itself as NIT Thuvakkudi.

2. If you are going to Government Medical College, Thanjavur, Then come out of 1st entrance in Railway Station, take the bus standing in footsteps of Thanjavur Jn to Old Bus stand, there change a bus to Government Medical College (6 series bus) or bus to Vallam/Sengipatti/Budalur. Also if you are going to Periyar Maniyammai College, the same you can do, but you should change only for Vallam/Sengipatti Buses as that buses only goes via Periyar Maniyammai College.

3. If you are going to college like Indian Institute of Food Processing Technology, you can cross the road after coming out of Railway Station through 1st enterance, take 60 series bus Towards Gandarvakottai, or take a bus to New Bus Stand, there Change a bus to Pudukottai/Madurai, get down at Air Force station stop.

4. If you are going to Raja Serfoji Arts College/Bharath college, it is better you follow the above same steps and come to New Bus Stand, from there it is walkable.

5. If you are going to colleges like Poondi Pushpam / Anjalai AMMAL in college hours, best ever idea would be take 56714 till KXO for Poondi Pushpam and till KYV for Anjalai Ammal college, When your college hours end, you can take 76853 to Thanjavur Jn.

6. For Govt Polytechnic/Kundavai Naachiyar College, take a bus to New bus stand as said above, get down in Ramanathan from which it is walkable.
