It is home for the ONE & ONLY idol in India in which one can see both Hari (Vishnu) & Har (Shiva). Hence the place got its name as Harihar. Harihar station falls in the Bangalore - Hubli main line. The Harihareswara temple was constructed in Harihar on the banks of river Tungabhadra in 13th Century by the Hoysala Emperors. The 4ft. idol is a combination of Protector (Vishnu) and Destroyer (Shiva).
