Union Pacific 4-8-8-4 ALCO # 4012
A brisk Winter chill shares the company of Union Pacific's Big Boy #4012 as the 1.2 million pound giant sits poised in the yard awaiting her next assingment. The Turbines have taken the thunder from these magnificent engines, followed later by the likes of the UP DD40X Centennials. It's unlikely she'll be called to service anytime soon. This, my UP steam contribution as DD40X #6936 tours the West in '08. UP #4012, compliments of UP. Lighting and smoke effect compliments of Lerro Productions.

It may lead to environmental pollution .... During my early days I have enjoyed train journey hauled by steam locos from Sambalpur junction to jharsuguda junction ...
That;s a secondary fact, and its quite known one too.
but the performance, even today's latest locos have no such power to haul lengthy n heavier rake single handed.

Yeah, the tender van matched the requirement of this loco.
The Triplex one is even huge, but due to some problem in the boiler, the Triplex couldn't attain the necessary speed, but tat was the only powerful 8.5k HP steam loco ever made in history.

It was in the past, not now. now it runs with Oil.
Til the EMD n Diesel were born, these were used to haul heavier weights til their retirement.
Thanx to public effort n Private organization interference, these locos are being restored back n will come out for tourist purpose.
