Had been to SBC y'day to see someone off. Udyan was on PF 5 and Mayiladuthurai Exp on PF 6. They left within 10 mins of each other. The state of the two trains was a sharp contrast - Mayiladuthurai Exp with neat and newly painted coaches, and Udyan with old and stinky coaches. My heart bled on seeing it. I had travelled so many times when it was still with SWR. Even the sleeper class used to be clean. Damn CR maintenance !!!
Even with 6 AC coaches, the train seemed filled to capacity. People were perilously oozing out of the unreserved coaches at either ends of the train. Is it really so difficult to add a couple of more coaches...

Agreed that PC is a must. But I strongly feel this may be extended to MYS once the TT is revised in the month of June.
Even though Pantry is useful, I think this train will not get Pantry Car. About extension, I am sure this will be extended to MYS due to lack of parking space at SBC. Yes, this train is very slow but for many stations this is the only train connecting SBC and CST... It would be harsh on them if stops are deleted.
On the contrary, why can't they make solapur yesvantpur express or basava express halt at these places and speed up Udyan? It is unfair to Mumbai passengers that there is no SF train to Bangalore, like there are to Chennai and Hyderabad.
Udyan is used by RMS - railway mail service to pick up n drop mail from almost all stations enroute...
Udyan is running from long back when Basava and YPR SF were not there... Hence stop has been already introduced. As we all know, once the stops are introduced, it's very difficult to remove them. Also it is difficult to introduce any more stops to SUR - YPR SF as even one more stop to it will hamper it's 55 kmph avg speed and will lose "SF" status...
