In the recent past, there has been considerable increase in the passenger/express services in the Hyderabad- Karnataka region. There will be more demands for new services once the Bidar–Gulbarga new Railway line is commissioned.
3) At present, the nearest coach maintenance depot to this area on SCR is available at Secunderabad only. Lack of sufficient number of pit lines, stabling lines, sick lines and other maintenance facilities acts as a limiting factor in introducing additional trains to satisfy the public demands.
4) With a view to meet the present and future needs of introducing new trains services, a work for creation of coach maintenance facilities is included as a part of the ongoing Bidar-Gulbarga new Railway line project.
5) This new work at Khanapur junction envisages the development of the following facilities:-
· One pit line for maintenance of 24 coaches at a time with catwalk arrangements on both sides of the pit line.
· One stabling line for keeping the rake till placement in pit line for maintenance or till ready for departure after maintenance.
· One sick line for placement of sick coaches to undertake required repairs.
· A covered sick shed enabling to take up major repairs.
Office and other service buildings for Mechanical and Electrical Departments.
