Does any one have idea what criteria is used for deciding higher or lower train no for any train between its end journey points ? For eg if train goes from A to B and back to A which journey will get higher train no (A-B or B-A)
Like for eg which train will be 16613 (lower no) and which train will be 16614 (one higher no). Is there any fix rule for deciding this ?

Someone once told me that the logic behind it was Main Sea Level of the source and destination stations. At least thats how it started, however now there are many exceptions. Not sure, if this is true.
