This train follows the same route as that of Bangalore-ERS intercity express but surprisingly does not change to electric engine. For the entire 800 km it is hauled by diesel. The railways could save a huge amount of fuel cost if an electric engine is used from Salem onwards just as it is done for the intercity express.
Sometimes dont understand the rationale of railways.....They try to increase fares in various ways, superfast charge, reservation charge, cancellation charge etc etc but dont try to look at ways where they can save huge costs from their end.

Very true. Plus it increases the revenue of railways, decreases pollution. I had read that diesel costs three to four times electricity. Plus diesel engines have high total consumption , like to turn on the engine, I heard it takes 40 to 50 litres. 2500 bucks to start a diesel engine. If it's kept idle at a station, it consumes like 10 to 12 litres

electricity is not coming from heaven and it is produced by burning a large amount of coal compared to diesel. an electrical loco consumes almost 1,75000 house hold electricity per day and most of our villages are still non electrified. A Diesel loco can't save Diesel but it can save a huge amount of electricity which is precious in our country. And also, an electric loco is much more expensive compared to Diesel loco.

Yeah WDM 3A at 15-17 coach eats up 50-55litres an hour running at 60-70kmph and at idle state or no load condition it takes 1 litre per hour:
source :LP of KGM DDN express
though electric traction is more costly.. the production of electricity, transmission by catoneries, and cost of pantograph etc. adds up a lot
