Sir,
I wanted to reserve a ticket for train journey on 01.08.2014. When I logged into irctc on 02.06.2014 morning at 0800 hrs I found the remarks "not available" (which means not even rac/waiting list). The same remarks were displayed for the journey 02.08.2014 also. However, the same day I was able to book ticket for 02.08.2014 00.35 hrs in another train. As per my calculation, as per the 60 day limit, the reservation for the journey on 01.08.2014 should open only on 02.06.2014 and for the journey on 02.08.2014 should open only on 03.06.2014. Am I wrong in my calculations ?

If u have the train Number, please first use the ARP calculator can see on the right and see if the Date of Journey is well inside the reservation period
i think firstly you was trying ti book a ticket in a train which arrives at your boarding point 2nd or 3rd day, not the 1st. BTW which train and from where to where?
I wanted to book ticket in kerala express from tpty to cbe for the journey on 01.08.2014. When I tried on 02.06.2014 morning the reservation had already been completed even for 01.08. and 02.08. How ?
because kerala exp arrives tpty on 2nd day. so reservation for this train opened already a day before.
You need to book like this.
Kerala departs Delhi 1 day earlier, so reservation for all stations open on same day at a time. So you need to consider the next day for TPTY.
If reservation is opened for delhi for date 1, then same time it opens for TPTY for date 2.
