History of Jabalpur Junction
Was constructed roughly around 1867 with the completion of Allahabad - Jabalpur branch line, by the East India Railway, thereby providing a link between Delhi - Jabalpur and Calcutta - Jabalpur, via Allahabad.

a motive of connecting Bombay with Calcutta, the GIPR laid tracks all the way upto Jabalpur, hence providing a direct connection between Bombay and Jabalpur.
In this way, after 17 years of running of the first train in India ( between Bombay and Thane ), in 1870 the Bombay - Calcutta route was opened and rail travel between Mumbai and Kolkata became possible.
