Ramm........is most of the network in Northern American - 'Non electrified'?? Since,i see most of the snaps @ Railpictures portal of 'Diesel locos' and if indeed is the case,any specific reason since Canada and United States are highly industrialized and tend to use the best possible energy source possible. :)

Not only America, many nations mostly used EMD's as freight transport and there are some geo reasons involved too.
America has deep canyons, open deserts etc, so electricity can b useful for public usage but in case of any natural disaster, it takes much time to restore track conditions etc.
so delay by private organizations isn't tolerated much.
Hence Diesels, EMD's rule
