After the successful completion of 160 KMPH Semi - High Speed Trial run between New Delhi and Agra termed as "Indian Semi Bullet Train", the Indian Railway board have stepped up efforts to upgrade track speeds across the country.
A lone Royapuram WAP-7 30331 locomotive was assigned duties of carrying out a speed trial test between Chennai and Gudur for the first time today. The locomotive clocked speeds of around 140kmph in its run.

I think this run was the first step for improving this section to High Speed Section of 130-140 kph. After that they will do some modifications to old tracks like in NDLS AGC.
