For all food supply (Foodgrains etc.) in India, 50% is contributed by Punjab alone. And yet railways have ignored the development of railways in the deep parts of Punjab. Malwa region is the biggest region in Punjab and is lacking basic rail connectivity. Out of 22 districts of Punjab, 14 falls in Malwa region alone and this is the most underdeveloped region as far as railway is concerned. Railways is just concentrating on steel , coal sector and mainly in eastern side. And to tell you , that most of the food grains to eastern side, goes from Malwa region of Punjab. According to data by NR, there are 2-3 major loading points of FCI in Malwa, and Patiala is one of them. And yet, for the last 50 years we haven't seen any development in railways here.
