Now that hopes of trains via Hassan are shattered, Karwar pax should ask for train to Bengaluru via Madgaon, Hubli. Also, there should be pressure from Karwar public for early start and completion of Hubli-Ankola and Honnavara - Talaguppa new projects. Now, they have to rely on only these 2 projects to get some connectivity to Bengaluru.

Train link to Madikeri is not shattered. If we can suggest a route which is avoiding / very less ghat section to Kerala side, this can materialise. Can be Mysore- Kushal nagar- Kutta Mananthavady - Iritty OR Nanjangud - Hullahalli - Manthavady - Iritty and then to Kozhikode or to Thalassery. I am not sure about exact location. You may elaborate further. Will avoid Mysore being the dead end of a big network.

During the British rule, there was a tramline on the route from Virajpet to Vellithod and its remains can be seen in places like Kootupuzha (which was washed away in floods). Due to world wars and the floods Britishers could not complete the link to Mysore (By that time we got independence also). There were several surveys happened. As per the Railway's survey, the distance between Mysore and Thalassery would be around 290 km while the distance by road is only 180 km. As per TLY-MYS action council survey, the distance, via Iritty and Virajpet, will be around 145 km. When compared to the proposed Nanjangud-Nilambur railway line which has to pass through wildlife sanctuaries like Bandipur for which getting environmental clearance is difficult, it will not create much environmental issues or affect wildlife, as it will have to pass through only about 5 km of reserve forest. Tunnels can be...

built in this area to solve the problem.
The new upcoming airport at Mattannur is just 55Km away from Virajpet, and the proposed the airport railway link can connect to this Coorg line to Cannanore directly.

CM withdrew the agreement of 50:50 between railways and GoK, so now most of the projects in Karnataka either will get delayed by decades or will be shelved.
