Totally AC trains like Shatabdi/Duronto etc have generator cars however other express trains also have AC coaches but do not have generator cars. Can anyone point the purpose of having Generator cars. It consumes fuel as well as creates lots of noise.

Also would like to know the full form of ICF and LHB.
You are correct, the karnavati exp runs with one generator car powered on as it is with LHB rake. Surprisingly the older ICF rakes are good in power management but the new ones do not have this basic requirement. This is a waste of diesel plus noise and air pollution.
