On 16.3. 2011, I purchased a ticket by AC 2-tier from Tuticorin to Bangalore by 16731 Turicorin-Mysore Express. Booking status was RAC 3 and today (13.4.11), I am still at RAC 3. It is difficult to believe that there was no cancellation during a full month. Could this happen, or is there something else I do not understand?
Or, is there only a limited number of berths for Tuticorin and more for Madurai? Many members have predicted that my berth will be confirmed, but I am still puzzled why the status did not change for a month !

Your second assumption may be correct. The quota for Tuticorin will be less than that of Madurai. However rest assured that vacancy in Madurai quota will also be taken into account during chart preparation and your ticket may get confirmed.

Thanks, but a regular traveller asserted to me this morning that, often RAC from TN remains RAC until the last day, since there are only 4 berths allotted for TN. (I myself faced a such a situation a few years ago and ended up sleeping on the floor.) Such information about quotas should be made known to passengers. In this case, I could have booked the ticket from Madurai and bought a separate ticket from TN to Madurai.
In the present instance, I panicked and bought today a tatkal ticket from TEN

to SBC by the weekly express. I was to travel by road from Tiruchendur to TN. Instead, I will now drive to TEN and catch the weekly exp. I am of course paying extra and I also lost the Senior concession.
Thanks anyway

Thanks. Please see my reply to the first response. This has been a lesson for me and should be so for all members.
