What's the validity period for a general ticket of Indian Railway?

yes u can buy advanced general ticket only 1 day prior to journey. u have to qoute at the counter that u need advanced ticket for tomorrow. i myself have got advanced general tickets may times
UTS tickets can be brought 3 days in advance for journey more than 200kms. When did they change this??
