Individual motor/axle control offers a fine control over every individual axle, resulting in a better slip/slide control.
GTO/IGBT has nothing to do with crew friendliness. IGBT provides better traction efficiency and control. For more details : click here
Migration from GTO to IGBT is not the only change that's going on in CLW.
This presentation of BHEL, one of the main IGBT suppliers has mentioned lots of other stuff too, including a change in VCU (abbreviation for vehicle control unit i.e. control system) itself.

Absolutely. CLW is all set with 3 Phase Completely.
But I don't think it is for all Zones.
Don't know.( So I find the solution of making a DC Loco suitable to derive the benefit of their AC Counterpart)
