Subha Bose 60 blog postsPUNE's (DLMW Patiala re-built) 18754-R WDM 3A with 12780 Goa Express rushes past 16508 SBC-BGKT Express at Shindawane (SHIV) on a rainy March evening.
12780 NZM-Vasco Goa Exp usually gets single PUNE WDP4D Engine from BSL to Pune. At Pune, after reversal, the train used to get twin PUNE WDMx/WDGx Locos. However, for last couple of months or so, I have seen Goa Exp getting single PUNE WDMx/WDGx or single PUNE EMD Loco (WDG4) or sometimes getting twin Alcos. So, the pattern of getting twin Alcos on Pune-Miraj-Londa Section is not regular / routine affair these days!
Maybe after Pune BSL electrification it will get PUNE WDP4D from Pune to Londa.
It is understood (from informal discussions with staff) that Pune and/or Miraj based Loco Pilots do not prefer EMD locos on Pune-Miraj Section (given a choice). They still like their good old WDG3A or WDM3A (single / twin unit) Engines. Hence, as of now, trains like Goa Exp, Maharashtra Exp, NZM-KOP Exp, ADI-KOP Exp are not getting WDP4D Engines. Sometimes PUNE WDG4 are seen with Goa Exp. Only SWR Trains (like KSK, CDG-YPR Exp, Bangalore-Jodhpur Group of Trains) which come with KJM WDP4 / UBL WDP4 EMD Locos to Miraj, continue with same locos all the way to Pune (and even for onward journey)!
