Yeah even in my section where electrification is going on, 60kg rails have replaced the old ones. Read somewhere that it doesn't break easily. Otherwise, here's an example of eloco's impact over wornout 52kg rails. /blog/post/1114880

Sir... IR is planning to run all Shatabdis and Rajdhanis at 130 Kmph MPS for which 60 Kg Rails are preferred over 50 Kg ones. Another such route is the Madhupur - Patna - Mughalsarai Route for East India Raj Exp trains :-)

Well... as per a few online news items the conversion work by ECR is going on in full swing so that the present MPS of 110 Kmph for all trains can be raised. Some places like Kiul, Jha Jha and Buxar are under the hammer. The Railway Board hasn't sanctioned funds for laying a 3rd line between Mughalsarai and Patna via Buxar yet... clearance awaited by ECR ;-)
