KYN WCAM2P # 21871 going towards PF1 of Pune Station on Sunday, 09-Aug-2015, at morning 07:05 hrs, to take charge of outgoing 12124 Pune-Mumbai DQ (Deccan Queen) Exp! At that time, a goods train (BCNA Rake) headed by BHEL built tiger faced WAP4 shell type BL WAG7 # 24690 came from Lonavala direction went towards GIT Ghorpadi Yard Area. Also, today's 11024 KOP-CSTM Sahyadri Exp was hauled by KYN WCAM2P # 21879 from Pune to Mumbai.

If you have seen WAG5 Banker Pairs (or Triplets), you will know that most of those locos are very old and have come to last few (or couple of) years of their codal life. Hence, those locos are being removed from banking duties and WCAM3 will be used. WCAM2/2P have problems related to MU Operations and hence they will be used as single locos for Express Trains. As far as WAG7 Triplets are concerned, they can be used even as single loco for hauling freight trains anywhere in India (under AC Traction). Although WCAM3 (in AC Mode) can also be used in similar ways, the problem is that crew (other than CR/WR) is not trained to handle these duel mode locos. Hence, best use of them is in CR Ghat Sections for banking duties!
Viral, Please note that WCAM3 links only from Pune side will slowly be removed. Other WCAM3 Links (going up to MMR / BSL / ET with 22+ coach trains) will continue. The released WCAM3 locos will be MU'ed and used for banking assignments. And with CSTM/LTT both under AC Traction, in case of shortage of WCAM2/2P/3 type loco, any train CSTM-Pune Section can now always be run (without any glitches) with any available WAMx/WAPx/WAGx Loco!

Only Pune Bound WCAM-3 links will be handover to WCAM-2 and rest CSTM/ET/MMR/BSL will be continued.. But now I can expect some Pure Ac loco allotment to Kalyan or Ajni ELS...:)

Yes… and any1 know the news of the ill fated WCAM3 which met with an accident on the rainy day. Hope it will not be condemmed.
KYN WCAM3 # 21898 (hauling Patna-Kurla Janta Exp) was derailed only and there was no major damage to internal equipment (like traction motors, electrical/electronic circuitry, etc). So, hopefully, this loco will be soon back in action. Let's hope for the best!
