A lot of diesel can be saved for IR and running costs would decrease if its given an e-loco from RNC to BSB or atleast till MGS. Atleast 520 kms will consume 2080 litres of diesel. Will consume more due to halts at various stations. Source for calculation of diesel calculation click here

Similar to this in IR theete are many places where Diesel locos are run in electrified sectiins-

1. Loco change for trains bound to KR happens at Vadodara. Diesel locos haul trains for 410 kms in BRC PNVL section post which diesel territory starts. With proper planning IR can think of constructing Trip shed n Loco Change facilities at Panvel. Fuel savings: Min. 1600 litres of Diesel per train per direction.
...

2. No Loco change for trains bound to KR. Diesel locos haul trains for 313 kms in TVC SRR section post which diesel territory starts. It will be mote when SRR CLT and CLT MAJN section will be erlectridfied by next year. Trip shed n Loco Change facilities available at Shornur. Fuel savings: Min. 900 litres of Diesel per train per direction.

3. Same is the case with Loco change of Mangala Express that happens at Igatpuri instead of LC possibility Panvel.

4. Similarly Mumbai CST Pine (192 kms) ..Many south bound trains still run with Diesels ex CST when LC at Pune is possible.

5. One more. Trains from SBC to NGC run with diesels on full Stretch.Electrified section...250+ kms I in DG NGC section.
