The blogger is true that the travel time is reduced. One need not get down at Borivali or Mumbai Central, and catch a taxi and spend time and money. There are many passengers like that whose travel time is reduced due to stop at Andheri. If you look at the trend in the last few years, trains are having more stops at suburban stations in the same city. This helps reduce commutation cost and time, it helps to decongest terminal stations and also helps to reduce the load of entraining/detraining together at the same station.

Some ppl have the impression that adding halts increases the travel time of passengers.
.
Lets do some modeling here to prove this wrong:
.
Assume a train travels non-stop from BCT to Delhi in
...
1000 min. Hence the average time per passenger is 1000 min.
.
Now assume the following:
Andheri and Borivali halts are added, hence running time is increased to 1010 min.
40% of passengers board at BCT (1010 min) : 40400 passenger-min
30% of passengers board at ADH (985 min) : 29550 passenger-min
30% of passengers board at BVI (970 min) : 29100 passenger-min
This means a total of 99050 passenger-min for 100% passengers.
This means 990.5 min per passenger, which is 9.5 min less than all passengers boarding from BCT
.
This proves that the average travel time per passenger reduces by adding halts at suburban stations, even if running time from starting station increases. I have not considered the time saved by avoiding taxi travels within the city, all the way upto the 1st station.
.
This does not apply to stops outside Mumbai city as the passengers from there will not come to board the train at BCT, if the train is made non-stop. Hence this model cannot be extended to stops outside the city.
