I want to know just for my information - How is that Gujarat Mail runs with 12 AC Coaches and no EOG and some trains like 12206 Nandadevi AC Express (10 coaches) 12847 Howrah - Digha AC Duronto ( 9 coaches) require EOG. Here I have compared only ICF trains.
Few things to know here. ICF coaches are mainly of 2 types. Self-Generating and Non Self-generating.
1. All the normal blue ICF rakes used on normal SF/express/passenger trains ( except some exceptions) are self-generating. They don't need EOGs and each generates it's own power ( A big boon for IR in terms of handling rakes and enabling slip trains). However, one main disadvantage of these coaches, apart from less efficiency and higher maintenance requirements, is that the MPS is restricted. These rakes cannot handle higher speeds as the oscillations can damage the connection between the wheels and the alternator that generates the power.

Here is the confirmation that Kalka Shatabdi runs with HOG and not EOG ( or at least, has run on several occasions). This is the annual report from RDSO, and in the first column regarding development of HOG modules for locomotives, it has been mentioned that commercial use of HOG WAP7 had started with Kalka Shatabdi. It is also mentioned here that 2 EOG cars have been modified and that the Loco's HOG module is connected to the feeder cables on the modified power cars.
