The Indian Railways is divided into zones, which are further sub-divided into divisions, each having a divisional headquarters. There are a total of sixty-nine divisions.
Each of the divisions, is headed by a Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) who reports to the General Manager (GM) of the zone. A DRM can be appointed from any services of Indian Railway, Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and Indian Revenue Service (IRS) for the tenure of 3 years but it can be exceeded on the recommendation of Railway Board. SCR is the only zone where all the divisions existing currently are either reorganized or newly formed !!
SR, NR , ER are the only zones which have all their divisions in tact without any reorganization !!
Update:- Ferozpur Division is the largest division in Indian Railways, however planned to shifted to Jalandhar!
