Still Indian railways keeping old station code names for all the stations, actually these station codes were generated in british period. for example Madras was renamed as Chennai, but still IR using MAS and MS codes for Chennai station, The same Viruthupatty was renamed as Virudhunagar by Government, but still using VPT as a station code. The same Tuticorin , now calling as thoothukkudi but the station code still TN. When will Indian Railway wake up from their long sleep and change station codes? This is important thing, because is not a secret code and it is not only using by railway officials, it is mainly use by common public people to use for Reservation in IRCTC web site. Kindly take necessary steps to change codes as soon as possible
suggesting codes:-
for Chennai Central code will be CNCT, for Chennai Egmore code will be CHEG, for Virudhunagar code will be VDNJ &
for Tuticorin[Thoothkkudi] code will be TTKD
