According to a commercial circular (file attached) dated 17.12.2015 of IR, full names of passengers will have to be typed by booking clerks at PRS counters subject to a maximum number of characters and no abbreviation will be allowed. As far as I know up to sixteen characters can be typed by the booking clerks and if they mention the full name, the surname can remain incompletely typed if the surname is long. Now the point is if this will lead to any confusion during the journey when the TTE checks the name and tallies it with the name on the document serving as the ID proof. I think IR should increase the number of characters that can be typed to accommodate the full names of passengers whose surnames are long, or should figure out ways ensuring that no confusion occurs as a result of typing the full names subject to...
