I am also a resident of Whitefield, Sir ( That's the reason I keep talking bout Whitefield only in most of my posts). :)
And the only two major entry points to Whitefield through KRPuram and Marathalli, are completely choked, with no alternative for people if even one of them is blocked. I am not questioning the usefulness of Metro as a whole, but about depending on it for everything. For example, beyond BYPL, a useful overhead alignment for the Metro is very difficult to get space for and any blockage to traffic at Tin factory will be a really huge mess. Even if that is somehow bypassed, simply because of lack of alternate routes, any

kind of construction related blockages on the ORR between KRPuram and Silk board will be a big mess to deal with. Whereas, the BYPL- Hosur line is under-utilized, has enough space for halt stations at Doddanekundi, Marathalli ( right under the bridge beside Poorva Rivera), Munnekolala. These arrangements can be made with practically no effect on the traffic as well, and quite a large number of people will definitely appreciate it.
Of course, Bangalore's town planning is not the subject here, but a lot of problems are coming up due to it. Definitely the existing rail network cannot cover the full city, and Metro is the best option for interior places. But ignoring the very conveniently placed rail networks in some of the most traffic hit areas of the city is very fool hardy! Just pay a visit to SGWF or Bellandur road station and you'll see how beneficial it will be to upgrade these networks. For the eastern part of the city at least, IR can provide a better service in a far lesser time and with far lesser impact on the traffic/living conditions than Metro.
