A railways official said the fare for Humsafar trains, announced by Union railway minister Suresh Prabhu in this year's budget, would not be over 20% higher than that for mail and express trains over the same routes.

Besides, the trains will also boast of better aesthetics, with a new interior and exterior colour scheme and the vinyl sheets similar to those used in the luxury Maharaja Express aimed at presenting a futuristic look.
“Since the train is a special class service with many modern facilities, it has cost the railways more. So, the fare will accordingly be on the higher side to meet the additional cost,“ said the official.
