Dear friend, irrespective of labhansh be positive (profit) or negative (loss), railways had to pay 10, 000 crores to finance ministry as interest on the money taken from years as loan from finance ministry as indian railways was considered a different financial entity from union finance ministry rather than other entities like indiapost, Indian airlines, bsnl etc.
