Sorry friend, I do not agree with the Ratnagiri terminus. Constructing a new Raiway terminus is a very costly affair (around 10 crore+ Rs) and need a lot of manpower and recurring costs. In IR, larger cities having high traffic potential are crying for Railway Terminus which has not been granted for financial crunch being faced by IR. I try to justify through the following discussion:
(1) Most of the rail passenger traffic movement from coastal Maharashra is northward/ Mumbai. Unlike our East coast, the West coast from south of Mumbai to north of Manglore is not much populated and none of the town along KR have traffic potential, high enough to start some trains, which is necessary to justify a

new passenger terminal. None of the cities of coastal Maharashtra along KR route had even 1 lac population in 2011 census. So today most of these cities including Ratnagiri at the most have a population around 1 lac and below.
(2) Only Goa (along KR) with an urban population of a few lacs, is commanding origination of trains due to very high tourist traffic, & it being a state capital . Northward going trains originating from Goa/ Manglore/Kochhi/TVC should meet the traffic demands of coastal Maharashtra including Ratnagiri. On western cost the most potent cities for train terminals are in Kerala which is densely populated and studded with larger cities like Thiruvananthapuram, Kochhi, Kozhikode, Thrissur etc. Manglore located in Karnataka and near Kerala border is only exception.
(3) With Passenger terminal in Sawantwadi being constructed to honour Marathi sentiments, of having a Mumbai bound train originating from Maharashtra, the claim for Ratnagiri passenger terminus is further weakened.
(4) It is better if larger number of north-south trains run through KR (the shortest route) which shall be sufficient to cater to traffic of Coastal Maharashtra.
(5) With full route electrification and patch doublings from both ends of KR already taken up and with Mr. Prabhu as RM, KR shall definitely get long overdue justice. The electrification & doubling shall progress fast and much larger number of trains shall traverse through KR which will fully satiate the traffic demand of towns along KR including Ratnagiri.
