There are now more hotels in Katra than one expected. But my all time favorite has been Niharika, a J&K Tourism hotel at the centre of Katra, adjacent to main bus terminus. ample space in dormitories, where you get a bed with clean bedsheet and pillow. Charges are Rs 100 per bed. Of course you have to carry your ID proof always. Adjacent to the dormitory is Annapoorna restaurant, which provides good wholesome meals, tea coffee and snacks at reasonable, very reasonable prices. Then the complex also has facility to give you 'yatri parchis', a sort of registration for the pilgrimage. There is also window for booking helicopter service. Ticket costs Rs 1200 one way flight. Just outside the complex is the main market and a couple of good eating hotels like Shere Punjab.
