Actually, isn't "brute force" that is being expected, but actually acceleration and balancing speed. A WAM4 would maintain lower speed on a continuous gradient, compared to WAPx, WCAM3 and WCAM2P.
WAP1's issue occurred in BNI-BKA section, and one of the reasons stated was the poor driving technique employed by the LP. Loco link was provided by CR, not NR :P
